About Kapoho Palms

Aloha and thank you for your interest in Kapoho Palms, your premier source for palms, cycads, and other exotic tropical plants. We grow over 500 species of palms and cycads, as well as many other varieties of other tropical plants. Since 1990, Kapoho Palms has been shipping great plants to satisfied customers in all 50 states and throughout the world.

Kapoho Palms is located amidst acres of palms and large mango trees in Kapoho, on the eastern tip of the sunny Island of Hawai'i, also known as the Big Island. The climate here is delightfully tropical (Zone 12-13) and we get about 120" of rain, relatively evenly distributed throughout the year by the trade winds which keep us cool.

Kapoho Palms was founded to take advantage of Hawaii's luxuriant climate and bountiful supply of rare palms. Most of the seeds we grow come from trees grown in Hawaii from seeds collected directly from their native habitats around the world. In addition to these local seed sources, Kapoho Palms also supports biodiversity preservation and ex-situ conservation efforts through its ongoing seed purchases. Our goal is to be able to use our resources in Hawaii to help preserve threatened plants from diverse habitats worldwide. To further this goal, we are growing colonies of palms and cycads as seed sources in Kapoho and elsewhere on the Big Island.

At Kapoho Palms, we believe in growing the highest quality plants possible. All of our seedlings are grown and shipped in individual pots as opposed to being grown in flats and shipped barerooted. Most of our plants are grown in either 4" pots or conetainers, which are cylindrical plastic pots 8" high and 1.5" in diameter.

When our plants are shipped to you there is no root damage as there is when a seedling is shipped barerooted. We feel that this is especially important when shipping seedlings that can have small and easily damaged root systems. Your plants will arrive with their sensitive and delicate roots undisturbed, so transplant shock is minimized and the plants' normal growth continues uninterrupted in your garden.

Plants grown and shipped this way grow on to be larger and healthier adults faster than those plants which are shocked and traumatized by root damage as seedlings. Customer satisfaction has been high with this method and we are glad to continue to bring you our plants in this manner for your growing enjoyment.

We will sometimes ship plants of 1 gallon and larger sizes, as well as larger plants in 4" pots, without a pot as larger plants are more able to tolerate the stress of shipping and the weight of their pot and media are much more significant (and thus expensive to ship). Please let us know if you have a preference.

Kapoho Palms ships all its plants by Federal Express as we have found them to provide the best combination of price and service. We usually ship orders from Hawaii on Monday through Wednesday so they will be delivered to mainland addresses during the latter part of the week. We are pleased to try to accommodate requests for specific delivery dates if available.

Kapoho Palms' minimum order size is $75, exclusive of any shipping charges. Our minimum for international orders is $300, again exclusive of shipping charges. Please inquire about any necessary permits and shipping arrangements for international orders.
